Sharlene Hazelwood

Sharlene Hazelwood’s music career began at the age of 12 when she started playing for a gospel quartet. Her father taught her how to play the guitar. As she grew older, her family’s band was in need of a bass player. Although the bass was not Sharlene’s first choice, it became her favorite instrument. She notes that, as a square dancer, the rhythm seems to come natural to her. She has played with musicians such as Larry Sparks, Jimmy Martin, and the great Bill Monroe. Having judged many competitions, Sharlene is familiar with all types of Bluegrass, her favorite being the old style.
